Crafting beautiful user experiences – Does your website attract users or detract them?
What sets a well designed website apart from your average site, well for the answer to that we have to delve into a  two fairly new design fields known as user experience (UX) and user interface design (UI). To define UX, think of your favourite app or website on your phone, notice how each interaction you have with a page is clearly defined. Does your favorite app make you want to come back for more, or is it an ugly duckling? User interface, determines how interfaces interact with menu’s, pages buttons, even animations and shaded edges of pop up boxes. User Interface design has gone past the realm of you laptop, it encompasses mobile, tablet as well as laptops and desktops.

In order to craft experiences that inspire users to come back for more, the website needs to be directed towards an audience. Know your user, their likes and dislikes, this will inevitably cause them to come back and purchase your product or make use of your service.

There are a few constants that will always fall into place with every project:
  • Business requirements - These will determine what functionality the website or App needs to serve in order to sell their product or service
  • Design - This may cover corporate identity and marketing
  • Technologies - Platforms are used to manage content and or use a particular functionality best suited to the business application
  • Users - A full analysis of the the audience needs to be performed in order to gain a better way of understanding their behaviours.

User analysis will be the starting point for any new project, how they interact with your website of app will determine their attitude towards the product. This will be the foundation to make better decisions about your target market. This also encompasses testing and tweaking user experiences until they meet the user’s expectations based on their perception of similar products.

Social media can be harnessed to gain a wide test sample of users and flesh out any bugs in the the UI/UX.

Functions of servers and systems will determine the capability and scalability of your produce depending on what the need is. Back-end and Front-end systems need to be carefully selected from the myriad of choices to perform under pressure from users.

Wire frames will determine the structure of the website and give the client and development agency a good plan to work from before going into the nitty gritty of design and development.

Visual designers make shit pretty, talented individuals with years of experience apply their knowledge to blend images, colour, space and text to bring a well refined product to the user.

Last but not least development comes into play, developers then take all the knowledge from the fact finding phase and implement all back-end architectures and front-end functionality set out by UI/UX designers.
